She has been instrumental in reshaping contemporary Inuit art. Her drawings break from tradition and challenge stereotypes by incorporating references to the past and present alongside her own highly imaginative and individual subject matter. Internationally, she is recognized as one of Canada’s premier artists.

Bowen Island based artist Susannah Montague creates sculptures that push the boundaries of ceramics as a medium. Juxtaposing the beautiful and macabre, she uses historical references and contemporary life to create vessels for her narratives. Montague draws upon current socio-political events, feminism, and her own personal experiences while demonstrating an exceptional understanding of technique and the history of ceramics.
